Don’t say sorry, just don’t do it again

You know those annoying people, who keep making mistakes and keep apologising. And then go out of their way to try and patch things up. Some call them teenagers – minus the making up part. Girls call them boyfriends. Boys call them the mentally disturbed girlfriends. Husbands call them wives, although they are usually the ones who are in the wrong. Everytime. We don’t like those people. Those people piss us off.

If you know you are doing something wrong. It is probably withing reason to ask you to stop doing it. We don’t want to check in and have to see you needing to apologise for 2 days straight just to make us feel like we still matter.

Don’t get us wrong. We still like it that you care enough to shower us with small gifts even though we know, that if you had tried harder you could give us what you really wanted.

At this point we would like to point out that this is not a rant about us feeling let down because the Mrs didn’t get us an iPad2 for our Birthday. Not at all. Although hinting about wanting it for months beforehand now seems like rather a waste of time.

We are not quite sure what goes in the minds of the Sri Lankan batsmen in the first innings. Although we are quite sure that it is not the same things that are there in the 2nd innings. It’s almost as if they got off the team bus and went “We’ll see how this goes, there is always the 2nd innings anyway”. Maybe this has something to do with Dilshan being satisfied with losing only 2 games since Murali retired. If you keep expectations low, it doesn’t seem as bad ? We don’t think that quite makes sense and are desperately hoping that is not the reality.

The longer Sri Lanka keep embarrassing themselves in the 1st innings, the longer the quest for a test win will continue. Winning a test match is hard. Probably one of the hardest things a sportman can do. 6 hours everyday. 5 days in a row.Β  You’re not doing yourself any favors by being 300 behind nearly every game. Pakistan bowled well. But not at a 174 on Day 1 level. Sri Lanka looked tired and lazy. There is no room for that in test cricket. Certainly not on Day 1. The pitch was fine. Better than fine even. If not for Pakistans Banana skin hands in the 2nd innings your apologies would have gone no where either.

Stop apologising for your mistakes. It’s nice and all that. But get it right. And get it right the 1st time.

    Spot on, mate.

I like how Dilshan always has the ‘But we’ve only lost 2 games’ excuse ready every time someone points out how badly the team is faring. And then there is the more convenient excuse of how they are finding it difficult to patch the holes left by Murali, Vaas and Malinga. None of that explains the seriously brainless batting that has caused full capitulations not once, but thrice since Dilshan took over. That is just not good enough for an international team playing test cricket.

It’s a good thing that the Slips were manned by Pakistanis and not Aussies/South Africans/English during the last test. Dilshan would have to slightly modify his excuse to ‘but we’ve lost only three games’.

You people are pathetic. Ranting on like we lost the game! All of a sudden “not losing” is not good enough for you lot? You actually want the team to WIN games? Being out in that weather saps your energy so much that the Boys hardly have the strength to go shopping after each day! Plus, the trauma of being shot at still haunts them whenever they face Pakistan.

Everything is fine now (read Mahela’s blog; he explains it so well). In the meantime, go find some good cheese to pair with your whines and leave the team alone!

Theena> If you’ve noticed, most of what Dilshan says post match doesn’t make much sense. Apparently we now hold the Mental Advantage going into the 2nd test. He is an interesting creature this one.
