Hiatus no more.

Greetings. We are back from our hiatus. Obviously.

Bigger (literally – thanks to Moms cooking) and hopefully with a few new tricks up our sleeves. There is plenty to get to. But all in good time. It is a little diffucult to keep up with the SL cricket news these days. Unconfirmed reports have filtered through to us that the Sri Lankan team cook has been sacked and will possibly be replaced by Dilhara Fernandos mom who is reputed to be an excellent cook of Kiri Bath and Sri Lankan curries.

In the meantime, we have actually recorded a podcast. It has everything you could possibly want. Me saying a lot of  ‘you know’ like a valley girl. Horrible production. Ranjith Fernando. Bad sound. And Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Yes.

Enjoy.

This time arond we talk about Dilshan and how he lost the captaincy + how badass Thilan is.

Pls feel free to leave your comments and suggestions. If you have any complaints about my nasaly voice please direct them to my parents.

Part I – Dilshan and Captaincy

Part II – Thilan is badass

Good podcast! Obviously room for improvement, as identified by yourself, but I enjoyed listening.

My two cents on Dilshan: I agree that he is not captaincy material and sucks at what he does, but I also believe that he can be made a good captain. The key to captaincy for Dilshan is his batting. He HAS to be consistent with his batting to be a good captain. We saw the difference in the last two ODI’s in SA. He starts thinking when he is confident about his batting, and that’s when the team will start respecting him, because, let’s admit it, he does not have the natural personality Mahela and Sanga has to command respect. The only way he can get it by elading by example. And also, to be fair by him, his job was made even difficult by absolute lackluster bowling and idiotic batting. Let’s admit that. I think it’s unfair to totally blame Dilshan for the freefall the team is going through. In fact I think part of the blame should go to Sanga as well for dumping the team at a very difficult time by giving up the captaincy whatever the reasons were. Because, let’s face it, politics in Sri Lankan (or should I say subcontinental cricket) is something all players will have to learn to deal with. It’s not going to go away that easy. Not anytime soon!

As regards Thilan, I totally and absolutely agree with everything you said about the guy! I just love this guy! He is definitely a fucking badass!! And I think whoever even talks about dropping him from the team should be shot dead! Seriously!

Yes Dilshan was always going to struggle to earn the respect MJ and KS garnered by just their presence. Once the weight of the lack of runs started to weigh in on Dilshan, he was always going to struggle.

Which is what I was alluding to in the podcast, I mean you want this guy in your team cuz when he comes off it is brilliant. But when he doesn’t its tough and this guy is the captain then it becomes compounded. Dilshan was always a confidence man and with out his batting giving him that he is half the man.

And he did preside over one of the worst times for the team where MJ KS and the top order and bowlers were struggling the most. So it’s a tough situation for Dilshan. But if you are captain, just as the praise is lauded on you for when you are winning. You are the number one target when they are doing bad. That is part of the job and I think that is why Dilshan was forced to resign.

    Thilan is God. Fact.

I was never a proponent of dilshan as captain of SLC but now that he’s resigned, can’t feel anything but sorry for the guy. He seemed to have recaptured his lost form in the last couple of matches so hopefully, 2012 will be a better year for him. As for Tilan, totally agree with you about him being your typical sri lankan guy. He just doesnt make a big fuss about who he is or what he’s done, and just goes about his business. Same goes to Rangana Herath as well. You cant do anything but appreciate them for their humility and for the calm and collective way they play cricket.

And what’s that that your co-anchor said about sanga’s considered a great because he scored a couple of hundreds in 2006? big LOL

Shine > I think we will see Dilshan back to his best once his mind is uncluttered without other pressure. See ball, hit ball. That is all his head is good at.
