Mendis was good, others weren’t that good

Shakib Al Hassan tells it like it is.

Young Shakib continues to build his reputation with both his cricketing skills as well as his genius one liners when he a mic is anywhere near him.

This liner was followed by a super-extraordinary innings he played yesterday to bumb off Zimbabwe and book a slot with Sri Lanka in the Finals.

It was Shakib’s confidence and belief in his ability that got him those runs. He has an air of arrogance that shines through in his batting, but instead of it being a detractor it adds more to his persona.

Shakib is the face of the new Bangladesh, daring, brave and youthful. Even the seniors seem to look up to him.

The good thing about batting well for Bangladesh is that almost all the time you are playing opposition better than your self, so there can never be an ‘easy innings’. Murali and then Mendis were dispatched with ease.

Shakib bats with cheek and experimental shots that makes switch hitting look like it comes from a batting manual.

Sri Lanka on the other hand had only them selves to blame. After a disastrous start, Sanath was once again in the mood for runs, the power plays werent called for and SL lost the initiative.

150 in 30 overs was never a hard task but Shakib made it look easy.

A couple more Shakibs and Bangladesh will be real contenders.

The final should be a ripper.
