SL routs Pakistan so well that no one even knows about it

Well its been two days since Sri Lanka, humiliated, destroyed, anhilated, smashed, fucked over, rammed one up the rear, to Pakistan.

Couldn’t find anything on it on Well Pitched – our resident Pakistani blog, so I strolled over to Jrods, for surely he wouldn’t miss a chance to the piss out ofย  a Pakistani demolition. Nothing there either

Arch Nemesis of Sri Lanka – Arm Ball suggests the game was fixed. Not sure whats more funny, that suggestion or the way he misspells Kulesekara (Kulesekhra). What he doesnt know maybe is that Kulesekara’s been in some fine bowling form for the last two years, thats why he averages 20 in 08 and uses the new ball.

Arm ball came here and predicted a whitewash, using his favorite line ofย  the ‘minnow bashing’ team going to get a taste of their own medicine. He hasn’t been seen around these parts since the 2nd match.

So how did SL win ? Match fixing aside, SL were caught playing with their weeners in the 1st match. Coming off Zim and Bangladesh does that to you. Even in that game SL had a good foundation but their lower order collapsed, they should have got 300, they ended up with 220.

Computer wiz kids were brought in, SWOT analysis were carried out – they dropped Mubarak, brought in Kandamby – a brute of a man, who has been throwing his weight around in the A team and he did the same to Pakistan, the key was his SR, he dint get a bit score but he scored runs at a rate and helped the man at the other end do the same.

In the decisive game, Pakistan would have expected SL to come out guns blazing like they did in the 1st two, they dint, instead they crawled to 50 in 13 overs but without the loss of any wickets. And then Dilshan just took over, from being dropped for the Bangladesh tour in the ODIs, to winning MOTS, Dilshan has come full circle.

Its as good as he has ever looked and the Kirsten and his staff have a new threat to look at.

The Sanath – Dilshan combination just worked. Sanath might be old, and we may not want him in the team, but he still puts fear in bowlers, if he gets it right, SL are 75% on their way to a win. Dilshan was picked on form – what great reasoning by our selectors, and all the planets just aligned.

The last 2 years and 2008 in particular has been a year for SL’s bowlers, and in the last two games SL showed what they are capable of if they are backed up by their batsmen. Big centuries help, but in ODIs, partnerships are more valuable. And in the last 2 games SL had them all over the place.

Dilshan- Sanath

Kandamby-Dilshan/Sanga

Nuwan-Thushara

Mendis-Murali.

Right now Mahela is the only liability in the batting. But he is good against India and makes love to SL pitches in the dead of night.

Maybe a lot of people were surprised that Pakistan were routed but bettering 310 against Splendid Mendis, Murali, Nuwan and Thushara is not an easy task these days. With Malinga to come and Maharoof finding his feet again SL has put together a very decent outfit.

Pakistan have a good team but they are led by a feeble captain, who doesnt inspire much. Afridi just annoys the fuck out of me. He is useless as a batsmen and is as reliable as Mahela right now. Aktars days are numbered, Tanvir has to be the guy to lead the attack with Gul, who could be the Mitchelle Johnson of Pakistan. And for godsake find a spinner !

The Match as I saw it:

TM Dilshan woke up suffereing from Mad Slog Disease and walking out to bat he passed it to Sanath. For 14 overs it was slog and miss.

Then Trevor Bayliss, already having invented the wind up radio, concocted a Magic Portion and sent Chubarak out with it for the drinks break.

Chuba got confused and gave Sanath a Red Bull which gave him wings and he took flight against Rao Ifithikar with 25 in the over but then got out.

Dilshan having drunk the Magic Portion settled down and the rest is history.

    The Batting:
Dilshan could have been out 10 times in the first 10 overs but then settled down to his most (only?) mature innings. He rotated the strike, milked the spinners, didn’t give a chance, made it to a hundred and then blasted off. In other words he batted in every which way other than the Dilshan TM way. Hope he realises that you don’t need to aim shot a ball at the start but can consolidate and accelerate away. After 15 overs his SR was 40, he finished at almost 100 having carried his bat.

Kandambi batted like Arjuna Ranatunga. He played just one memorable stroke but had reached 30 at run a ball when you still expected him to be on 15. If he stops looking like Arjuna will have a better career. Still not sure if he could bat 30 overs in the heat of SL.

Sanga batted so effortlessly that he was also dicating his Cricinfo Tour Report at the same time. Then he ran out of words and before he could remember where he was Afridi had broken the stumps.

Sanath remains the ultimate game changer. In one over he upped the run rate from 3.5 to 5 and changed the game.

Mahela scored at run a ball and didn’t slow down the innings which is all that can be said for him.

    The Bowlers:
Kulesekara is now officially the most innocous looking dangerous bowler. The look on Afridi’s face was priceless.

Thushara needs to start swinging the ball back in. Then he will be a threat in the Vaas league but with pace.

Maharoof needs more bowling under his belt. Needs to be perserved with rather than Dilhara The Lazy.

Mendis had the worst series of his young career. Consistently tended to be too short. The last two games were a chance for him to get the annual bad games out of the way.

Murali got the rare chance to gorge himself on a couple of cheap wickets after everyone else had done the hard work. Almost like a benefit game for him

Bwahahahaha, wat a thrashing. There used to be a time I hated Sri Lanka for the way they used to humiliate India by these margins… watching them do it to an over confident Pakistani side was awesome :)… I can’t wait for more crushing victories…. who’s next… bring it on… DOH!!!

Excellent comeback by Sri Lanka and they have turned the corner after some poor performances in the last month or so.

The fool who called them minnows will be wiping the egg off his face for many moons to come.

The series against India should be a beauty!

damith, unforunately, you made me read the tripe served by arm ball. Never knew of it until you advertised it – and I regret going to that site. I blame you for this.

Firstly, I do so wish that SL whip the ass of the over-confident Indians(my fellow countrymen, btw). Dhoni is so drunk with success that he forced the inclusion of the pathetic Praveen Kumar who has done nothing of note recently. But then he is so lucky these days that he may get away with it.
For Dhoni;s luck alone, I believe India will win this series giving the likes of Arm Ball more to gloat about.
But then the two jayas have always whipped India so there is some hope there. I hope Mendis continues his magic and exposes the paper kings like Yuvraj and Dhoni. But then these are lucky bastards so my prediction is that India will win – and Yuvraj, Gambhir, Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan and Praveen Kumar will have personally succesful tours.

  11. you know, its fine that you guys came over and raped our cricket team even with mendis having a horrid series.

its fine that you wrote a great, big, well deserved gloaty post over how brutal the hammering was.

but come on man. its like that scene in clockwork orange where the three dudes beat the fuck out of an old beggar in the tunnel.

that night, we had people turning to one another and asking: “Ab kya hoga?” (What will happen now?)

i am glad you guys praised the lankans, cuz for us we could barely watch it. and we clearly have to come to terms with it.

can you imagine – no cricket for donkey’s years, and then a return like this. but it makes complete sense too. the pakistani nation/state/people/cricket team always give you one completely unexpected moment of delight before ripping out y our guts.

(the first ODI vs the next two, the T20 world cup steam rolling vs Misbah’s last shot, the 99 WC vs. the 99 WC final)

hope you are happy. we are not.

Raj> Dont take it personally. Arm Ball is a passionate blog and we have all had a lil dig at someone or the other!

karachikhatmal> This is not intended to be a gloaty post at all. It may sound like it though.

Pakistan have a good team but needs some work. I think the test series to come will be a massive help for them to figure out their proper first xi. I wish them the best !

  15. perhaps i am working on a stereotype, but your response was like how sri lankans appear to me – courteous and honest.

i was just being bitter about the defeat, and actually quite liked it. as for misbah, who knows what goes inside that head?

hmm.let’ see that. Person A says bad about Person B’s work. Then the Persn B makes sick personal remarks about Person A.

I leave it to the judgement of who is reading it to decide who is sick etc.

Thanks for the advice Sam. But no Thanks. I know to separate comments on someone’s work from comments on their personality. Maybe you should learn the same.

sam, dear boy, no I will not come to your blog. I didnt like it.
Few blogs I like – this one, Jrod’s, achettup’s. So, yeah, I am not exactly frustrated.

Finally, you publish a blog. some will like it. some will not. few among both categories will express their like/dislike. learn to deal with it. or dont learn – not my business. but i can comment on it – and if damith doesnt like it in his blog, he can remove it. this is very simple. if it pleases you, you can call me names, too. I request damith not to remove them if at all he intends to because I can deal with it. big deal ๐Ÿ™‚
