Splendid Mendis breaks the land speed record

I haven’t had time to blog in the last week or so, being home is a full time job, attending weddings, seeing relatives and climbing a mountain resulting in me not being able to walk since I got back down.

But the Cricket doesn’t wait around does it.

– KP’s gone

– Warner has arrived

– Hayden’s retired

and flyslips own Splendid Mendis just broke the world land speed record. But it seems even that’s come at a price.

I’ve noticed certain people questioning Splendid’s achievement, its always the same excuse, SL play too many minnows.

Hell, if we were given the chance we would play the best teams in the world.

India is too busy trying to plot the best way to eek out more money.

Australia is too wrapped up in figuring out how to get back to the top, although a few series against us might help that cause.

SA’s ego’s enlarged to mammoth proportions that they might not come back down for a while.

And So, SL are merrily making hay while the sun shines.

Pakistan will face Mendis and the excuse might be  that they forgot how to play it test cricket. At least that’s a genuine one.

It would surprise most that Mendis’s average against Bangladesh is worse than it is against India, Pakistan and the WI. But lets not let the facts get in the way of a good story.

When he bowled against the ‘best players of spin in the whole universe’, he destroyed them at an avg of 8.68.

So by that logic, the Indians are only marginally better than Zimbabwe, 8.00, and are definitely worse than WI,20.00, and of course that Asian Powerhouse in Bangladesh, 31.50.

So then the question becomes, are we in fact playing the right minnow?

Imagine if he goes at this rate. It’ll take only 190 games to get 500!!! 😛

Damith, wait you havent played the real minnows against spin yet – England, New Zealand and South Africa. I think Mendis has got the best opponents possible in world cricket and stuffed them. Only India and Australia can be considered competent against a spin bowler of the ability of Mendis – and he stuffed India – I am keeping my fingers crossed if he can do it against Oz – not because he is not capable because the Oz bastards are lucky bastards. Until I see it happening, I will hold back comments.

And with all the attention on Splendid, Mahela has finally managed to, er, catch Azhar in the catching records.

    Er..
If they could, every other board would do the same.
And what would you call the landing of a millionaire’s chopper in Lords … the ECB being good hosts? Clearly they too were in it for the money. Every board wants money and will do what it takes to make money if it has the opportunity.
I’ve still not seen an example of a board giving up money for the “greater good”.
