Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe, round up and awards

It was supposed to be a one sided series.

In the end, Zimbabwe gained more from the series than Sri Lanka.

Sure Sri Lanka won 5-0, a whitewash, but if you followed the games you would know this was much closer than the final result shows.

Zimbabwe

Hamilton Mazakadza and Sibanda were impressive. They played with flare against a formidable Sri Lankan attack and nearly won Zimbabwe a couple of games.

There is potential in Prosper Utseya but perhaps the burden of captaincy is too much for him.
Taibu was a rock in the middle overs, It would be in everyones interest in Zimbabwe if he were given the chance to lead.

Mupariwa and Chigumbura were stand out bowlers, worrying the Sri Lankans through out the series. Care needs to be given in their development.

Sri Lanka

The favorites leave Zimbabwe with a lot of things to think about.
The batting was woeful through the series barring Sangakkara. Even he managed only a single 50.

SL batted first twice in the series and managed 171 and 152. Unacceptable.

Its as if the bowlers and batsmen had a bet on whats the lowest total the bowlers could defend.

The bowlers cleaned up.

The Luke Skywalker award

-given to the player for an outstanding performance even though no one gives him a chance.

It was a toss up between Jehan Mubarak and Nuwan Kulesekara.

Jehan for his testi growing performance in the 4th game.

Nuwan for his incredible 2 in 2 to win a game we should have lost.

In the end Nuwan won cuz he has a lovely smile. And managed to get 6 wickets at 13.

The Shivenarine Chanderpaul award

-given to the player who carries the team on his back.

This award could have been given to any one of the Sri Lankan bowlers.

But we are biased and we give it to Splendid Mendis. An earth stopping 15 wickets at an average of 8.

Out gunned Murali.

Picked up another 6fer.

Can anyone stop him ?

The Sarah Palin Award

– given to the player who was an absolute and total faliure, but a good laugh for the rest of us.

Mahela Jawaradene.

4 innings

19 runs

15 of those in the first match.

2 ducks in a row.

Get your head on straight Mahela, stop thinking about the IPL or unicorns or whatever you are thinking about and score some runs.

man i’m disappointed that muba couldn’t win the Luke Skywalker award. why couldn’t you do that favor for a fellow royalist, how could you insult him like that man?

i bet he would’ve won that if only muba’s daddy agreed to bribe a little more like to you like he does with the selectors. oops wait i’m not supposed to insult parents…. shhh…

Sam> Its because, Ind, Aus, Eng have the monopoly over the cricketing schedule.

Why do Aus and Ind play so often ?

When was the last time Aus played Zim or Bangl ?

Or India for that matter ?

We get to play the teams the big teams dont usually play.
