The ICCs relentless pursuit for perfection

The ICC aren’t perfect, we all know this. It is most likely that they know it too. But they want to be. Oh – so – badly.

This  is exactly the reason they have removed the imperfect DRS from being mandatory and pushed back the test championship to when we are all about to keel over. Many people think all this is because of India and money. Frankly, that is rather rude.

Apart from not being perfect, the ICC are also misunderstood. That is to say people don’t understand how they operate or the decisions they make. From our point of view it all has to do with the ICCs relentless pursuit of excellence, nay, perfection.

The big wigs know the DRS is faulty. People say that sometimes Hot spot doesn’t pick up deflections on well lubricated wood. It can get quite technical but basically it’s no good you see. It no worky.

That is as simple as we can put it. Recognising these flaws and acting upon them take great courage. And when nearly all the world is screaming against the decisions you are making, it takes even more foresight and leadership to stand above it all and tell us all to go and have a toss. Unlike us, the ICC have a code of conduct that they simply will not breach. It is commendable that they are still able to retain their moral high ground even in the most trying times.

The test championship is something a lot of fans have wanted for a long time. And for the longest time, the ICC did not even entertain thoughts about it. Why ? Because, just like the DRS, the ICC simply will not bow down to external pressure to deliver something that they know can be replaced by another thing which most of us don’t want but the ICC know is better than the thing we all want. It’s that simple.

Now that we are talking about a test championship the ICC once again went with their gut feel. To them another CT just feels right. And if we really sat down and thought about it, the ICC are confident that that is what we would arrive at too. All we are saying it, stop harrasing the ICC through your blogs and quick witted comments on cricinfo for a second. Did you ever stop to think that the ICC does all this because they care about us.  Some more than others but don’t parents have a favorite even if they don’t admit it.

There have been many times that I have sat wondered if I had the courage to lead my life the way the ICC runs cricket.
