Ricky Ponting; the law abiding captain

So in case any of you are still wondering why Brett Lee dint bowl in the first session of Day 4 we went ahead and asked him

Well not we, but Mark Nicalaus.

So apparently its overrates that Lee dint get a the nod from Ponting.

This is very hard to believe, How can you not bowl lee, the premier fast bowler in the team cuz of Overrates?

Things might not be as peachy as it looks in the Aussie camp. And its not looking too peachy right now.

Still doesn’t make a lot of sense, if you’re trying to improve over rates then why not have Katich bowl his half decent off-spin rather than Hussey with medium pace?

Or if you’re really serious about over rates, don’t move the field after every ball

The thing is, the only one affected by slow over rates is the captain (i.e. Ponting).

So by putting the issue of over rates above the chance of getting wickets with his premier fast bowler, Ponting was only really watching out for himself, and not the team’s welfare.

(That is, unless he had pretty much given up on the Test by that point, and was just trying to make sure he would be available for the rest of the series.)

straight point> well id like to think that by bowling lee the defeat and its margin may have been avoided or reduced.

I wouldn’t be hasty to conclude that dominance of Aussies is over just by looking at one win.

But they are certainley not the team that used to be a couple of years ago.
