Royal on target after day 1

Royal College came into the 130th battle of the blues as massive favorites, having won 10 outright wins in the cricket season and yesterday they proved why.

Raveenthiraja Nirrushan, Thomian skipper, had a meltdown before a ball was bowled when he won the toss and sent the Royalists in.

We laughed at the weak hearts of the Thomians.

But at 35-2, Nirrushan was sitting pretty. And we weren’t laughing. After 146 runs were smashed for the 3rd wicket, we were happy campers again.

Kusal Perera(VC) achieved the dream of every boy in both schools when he racked up three figures at the ‘Big Match’.

He was promptly swamped by the invading crowds, yes they still do exist and is part of the tradition at the schools game!

Banuka Rajapakse smashed a brilliant 87 and deserved the 100 he didn’t get.

Royal ran up 313-9 in 76 and declared, and had STC 54-4 at the close, who says cricket is boring in the subcontinent ?

If Royal can nip out the rest of the Thomians before the follow on, which is another 110 runs away, they will in with a massive chance.

Lets hope the weather stays fine!
